New M16® Fire Department Zytel® models are designed to meet the special
requirements of those in fire fighting. For strength, we use our rigid
InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless steel liners. Scales are
injection-molded Fire Engine Red Zytel, which is a tough, strong
composite of fiberglass and nylon designed to handle the worst abuse.
The scales are textured for good grip in wet conditions.
These designs feature AUS 8 stainless steel blades, chosen for edge
retention and durability. Black titanium nitride coating provides
extreme corrosion resistance. Blade edges are Combined Razor-Sharp and
Triple-Point"! Serrated to handle rugged cutting tasks that break down
standard cutting edges. All models feature the Carson Flipper extension
to the blade, which aids opening, especially when wearing gloves, and
acts as an additional blade guard.
The dual grind Tanto blade offers maximum strength. One-hand opening and
closing is velvet smooth, the result of Teflon® bearings at the blade
pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides
instant access in any circumstance.
For 2006, all models feature our new patented* AutoLAWKS®, which
automatically turns the folders into fixed blades when the blade is
opened and locked. Every model features a removable black Teflon-plated
stainless steel clothing/gear clip.
